Okay, so axies love shrimp.

If i were to use an internal breeding trap which would stick to the side of the aquarium, make it all nice, with some moss balls or plants, put one male and one female shrimp in there, would they eventually breed?

And then, feed them up and make them tubby, put them in the main tank, they would be snack...Leave the two adults in there to survive and reproduce...?

What kind of shrimp? I assume you mean something like ghost shrimp or cherry shrimp? It might be possible, but it would be tricky. I'm not sure if a small breeding trap would be comfortable enough for the shrimp to settle in and breed. Also, the temperature requirements are somewhat in conflict. Shrimp breed best if they are above 72F (22C), but we are always trying to keep axolotls as far as possible below that temperature. It might be worth trying just for fun, and you might get lucky with it. But if you're serious about breeding shrimp, I think you really need a separate setup.

Well, my tank is in my room and ranges from about 18 to 24 degrees celcius.

I was thinking of either ghost shrimp or cherry's...

Well, i was thinking of getting like a breeding trap, relatively large, put plants in, maybe a substrate, and a little hide...

Might try when I have the money..

Thanks for the replies!

Didn't work for my cherry shrimps (when my tank was continuously at 18C). I put in an ornamental bridge, some artificial fern + a couple of moss balls, plus fed them fish flakes. All that happened is the breeding trap got shrimp poo stuck in it ;)
They survived fine, but didn't breed (I had 1 male + 3 females in there)

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
