Probably an eastern, but until it's grown a fair bit more into its pattern, that's debatable at best. Even as adults they're sometimes hard to differentiate. Much of what's offered in the pet trade is easterns. Barred fetch a higher price and are often properly ID'd and sold as adults. Blotched and gray may be available time to time, but species west or south of these four are pretty much unavailable.

That´s not like to give you any results...pet-shops barely ever know what they are even selling let alone where those animals come from. But hey, give it a try just in case.
If they can´t tell you anything, just wait until the animal is more mature and the coloration is more defined, that might give some indication.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
