A few of you might of seen my previous thread on how I work at a petstore and there was a paddle tailed newt possiably gravid.Well she was sold so I'am not sure if she layed eggs or not at her new home. But I went to work today agian and I seen the males with neon blue dots on there tails, they were fanning there tails, swollen cloaca, and some hairy looking thing coming out there swollen cloaca.

I'am going to tell you guys how we have been keeping them and maybe this made them try to breed?

We do water changes every other day on them .And when it was summer we kept the airconditioner right on top of there tank and the temprature was really cold.I'am not sure how cold but it was really cold. The cold temprature in there tank was around for maybe 1-2 months. Then when it got colder outside we turned the heaters on the store and the temprature right now is about 75-80 F.Maybe this could of triggered them to try to breed.

I have paddletails who have exhibited breeding behavior every year for years but no eggs...including the hairy cloaca.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
