Default Buying a chiller in australia

I am writing to share my experiences after having bought a Hailea Chiller 150A from aquariumwarehouse via ebay.

The price was much cheaper than that quoted to me for buying direct from an aquarium shop in Adelaide who wanted me to spend almost three hundred dollars more.

This was my first venture into internet shopping on ebay and before venturing there I tried Guppy Aquariums which is an online shop based in Australia who actually had the item for 100 dollars cheaper than i finally paid.

Unfortunately when I wrote an email to the GuppyAquariums asking if I would need to buy any extra items to make the chiller work they did not respond and when I later sent a second email was told they do not have time to answer customer queries, and that they expect customers to know the product information and what they want already.

So because of the way the responded Initially I did not feel confident buying from them,( other people who use this site have had positive experiences with Guppyaquariums) so I think the moral is you really need to shop around and know what you want and dont expect them to provide customer service.

I am happy with the chiller I have bought and was chosing between a Teco 5 or the Hailea and the Hailea was what was on sale through aquariumwarehouse for 400 dollars AU

As I type I have had the chiller running for about 12 hours and the water temperature is a pleasant 17C for my axie yet because it is summer here it has not dipped below 28 degrees ambient temperature all night and is going to be 37 C for the next few days.

There is a sense of security and relief knowing that my axololt can stay cool on hot days and that I can go about normal day to day life on hot days without having to stay home and rotate frozen water bottles and use fans etc to try and keep my pet cool.

I did have to buy a new Filter that cost me 66 dollars but in hindsight I feel this is a good invevstment as the small sponge filter I had in the 3 foot tank was not really doing the job.

Next time I shop online I will be more aware that it takes time to do research before buying and that the people at caudata forums are a great help in preparing before making such a big financial investment in an item such as a chiller.
