This is Bertha, my female tiger salamander. I took a quick video of her eating from the tongs yesterday, thought some of you might like to see it. It's nothing special, just a waste of 2 minutes really :p

As you can see she responds to the movement of my finger, but quickly loses interest when she realizes it's not food. When I pick up the feeding tongs it's a different story. She recognizes them and gets very excited at the prospect of eating XD

I feed her an adult lobster roach in this video. Nauphoeta cinera. Roaches make great feeders because they are more nutritious than crickets, don't chirp, don't bite, and don't stink like crickets do.

It's funny how she ignores your finger at the glass, but goes nuts for the tongs:happy:

Love the video man! I do similar techniques with my axolotls.
Your tiger is beautiful. Makes me want to get one!

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
