My axolotl babies!!

I got some eggs from Jim Stoner a few weeks ago and just wanted to share my babies! They are little pigs and have done really well. I set up a daphnia culture before having the eggs sent, but as the axies started hatching, the cultures seemed sparse so a tackled my fear of hatching and harvesting brine shrimp and now I am a pro at it! It's a good thing too because somehow I managed to completely kill my daphnia moina cultures- 2 separate ones! These guys love their brine and have fat pink bellies all the time! As they grow, I am separating them by size and will get them down to 1-2 per container as needed. Thanks for looking :)

Question: how many eggs did you get, and how many made it? They look adorable :)
 
I believe there were 44. I ended up with 8 spinners, a few eggs that didn't develop fully, and a couple of runty ones, one of which didn't make it and the other I'm not sure about either. So, I have 29 big healthy axies and 1 runty guy.
 
Not much change, here's a picture of a couple of them at 2 weeks old. They are definitely bigger, the biggest are about 19mm.

Here they are at three weeks old. They are almost 1 inch long for the most part and do have front leg nubs. All are doing well but compared to what I've read they seem to be growing a bit slowly. Since I feed them in excess 2-3 times daily, I believe it is due to keeping them extra cool (around 66F, 18C) and in very very low light. Anyone have any input if that? Here are a couple of pics.

Yes, thanks! And I took a black light to them the other night, about half are gfp:)
 
They look happy, healthy, and adorable :D

At this age, do you still have them living in a plastic container? Or is that where you just feed them?

If they are in the plastic container, are you doing a 100% water change everyday?

They are kritter keepers (plastic). I change 100% twice a day. They are still in groups of 5-10 but I am starting to separate them into smaller groups since I noticed a nip in one of their tails.

    with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

    Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

    Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
