I love all the tanks in this thread!im going to have to go out and buy some more things for mine tomorrow!

@ZoeT94 where did you get the sand, and how much was it?if it's cheaper than my nearest aquarium i might just have to buy a mix of colours from wherever you got yours!

when i put them in, they didnt seem happy. but theyve relaxed and been exploring. i plan on getting a new filter so it wont be crooked.

you wont believe how fast the hornwort grows! its almost to the surface!

Cycling this 20 gallon tall right now for my new axy (still needs a name, not sure of sex yet.)
So far I'm pleased with how the tank looks, just need a good cave and more plants.
I was going to build one out of rocks so I'm just on the lookout for safe flat rocks like slate or something.
I don't want to use anything fake looking and pvc is out of the question lol. it would be an eye sore.
I did think about burying it under sand which might work well.

Be carefull with the gravel on the floor, small axolotls could get constipated when swalowing the gravel while they are eating.

Yeah~ I tried my best to hide it but it is a plant fertilizer~ lol
It was little soft and I figure I might pass through.
Thanks for noticing~

Thank you! It's from Crazy Sand, I ordered it online, they have loooaaads of colours, I used to have orange, but I fancied a change! If you want the site, literally type in "crazy sand" to google and it'll come up!

I know, right? Mine started out pretty short a month or so ago, and its now winding and looping across the surface of my 75 gallon tank. The bamboo isn't even growing as fast as that!

less then two weeks.. lots of growth. new filter (cycling) with the old one next to it. the line thats along the filter from top to bottom is a plant. it grew about 4 inches a day. its now flowering at the surface.

Here's my 4ft x 1.5ft x 1.5ft tank

suzi, you should try putting some black card on the back, it would really make the inside stand out.

my tank as of last friday. the hornwort has grown a TON since then. amazing.

i also got 5 cloud minnows and 20 ghost shrimp to clean the tank. no, the axies have demolished maybe 13 shrimp, and 4 minnows, including a female filled with eggs last night. so bummed.

anyone have a list of snails i can get that wont harm the axies if eaten? my plants need a cleaning and i wont put my plecco in there.

Axolotls will eat everything they can eat. The best way is to have them in a species only system. So no fish, snails, shrimp...

i dont mind them eating them, in fact, its part of the reason i got the shrimp and clouds. the clouds were to eat any planaria that was in there, and the shrimp, to clean the tank. i knew eventually theyd be eaten, but i didnt think it would be less then 48 hours before they demolished 11 shrimp and 4 minnows. the remaining shrimp are at the top of the tank, in the floating log and the tops of the plants, cleaning. i like that.

i make sure i dont get anything that could harm them and nip their gills or impact them.

Lmao it is!! I have two exactly the same along side of a corner with a little table and a gorgeous plant in the centre of the two in the corner... Lol

It's my little aquatic garden :D

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
