Hey everyone! I'm not sure if this is in the right section but I really wanted to share this experience with you...

So I was sitting in front of my tank, just watching my little axies when I was looking over at Lucy. I was kind of talking to her when suddenly her mouth opened reaaally wide! and then she just swam away! I wish I could have gotten a picture of her, it was so cute >o<

So has this happened to anyone else? there was nothing near her mouth so she wasn't snapping for food! I wish I could've gotten a picture >_<;

Mine does that occasionally. It looks like a little yawn, not sure if it actually is though haha. Cute anyway :D

If by "yawn" you mean silent roar of bestial fury, mine do it all the time :D

Yawning axies make me want to use Photoshop:

I made one with huge lion like fangs, but it's gone somehow. I blame Xotl for it.
I still want to capture Xotl yawning, because he's a cute 'ugly' dude :D

GO ON YOUTUBE AND SEARCH THIS.
I sat and watched videos of axolotls yawning for almost an hour :)

I saw this little axie yawn today, couldn't believe it when I saw it. Pity I didn't catch the yawn ?

AUGH so I was taking a video of one of my axies that I am giving to her and as soon as I stopped the recording, little Levi yawned : ( I WAS SO CLOSE TO GETTING IT ON FiLMMMM ;~;

This thread and the Youtube videos make me want to own Axolotls even more. They're fantastic creatures.

They look like little opera singers.
"Lalalalalaaaah!..... *done*"

This post came to mind just the other day.

I'd just fed Toothless, and I was watching her trawling across the sand. She stopped suddenly, and her front legs were floating a little off the ground. She was staring fixedly at the tank front. At which point this ensued...

Me: Toothless?
Toothless: *blank stare, lasting about 10 seconds*
Me: Toothless? What's the matter? (to partner in the room) Her gills aren't twitching! Is she okay? Toothless?
Toothless: *Stares blankly*
Me: TOOTHLESS!
Toothless: *Yawns hugely and drops onto the floor*
Me: You're going to be the death of me one day!

It was so cute! I think she does it after she's had a big meal, and I also think it may be more of a little burp as her tummy was quite distended when she did it. She might have swallowed a lot of air so that would explain it. She was much more comfortable afterwards. By the way, the picture of Chao is perfect! ^^

This thread makes me reaally reeeeeeeally happy...

as i read the posts while laughing :singing:eek:ut loud to my roommate, he said "You are all the same, all of you lotl owners are the same weird person"

I think we're LotlDestined. We were probably all specially genetically created in a lab somewhere to be in tune with our axolotls, developing such specialised genes as those which enable you to talk about gill sizes for two hours straight, and - most importantly - that gene that allows us to ignore the Eyes of 'I'm Starving! Feed me!'

That's what we are. L-Men, Possibly. :) *Feels special.*

    with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

    Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

    Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
