UNWELCOMW?!?!? Really! But they are soo awesome! I always love to see them. I am guessing because it might eat the koi? They only eat small fish. If I was you I would be more conserved about eagles and Ospreys ( I have actually seen an Osprey catch a koi ). And PLEASE make sure that none of those koi can go anywhere/escape the pond! If they do they can totally wipe out native amphibian populations. Because a koi is really just a selectively bred carp, and so they do the same damage. I would hate to see them get out -Seth
I hate 'em. They not only eat koi, they kill fish larger than they can swallow. They also eat amphibians. I get osprey too. We have eagles nearby, but I've never seen one on my pond. Don't worry, the koi can't go anywhere. You're not telling me anything I don't already know.
There are at least 2 types of frogs and at least one type of toad. Probably more, but I don't know the species. I get hundreds and hundreds of tadpoles. Maybe this coming summer I'll get some pictures and post them on here.
I grew up in this area and used to find salamanders in our yard when I was a kid, but I've never found any in my yard at this house.
Size and coloration may vary in both these species.
Sorry, I just want to know! I love wild amphibians and it is just cool to know what other people are finding. like I said, it sort of like a "mystery". -Seth
