This is a beautiful home for Nacho and Swampy they look very happy. What is the grassy looking bottom of the tank made of?
I will be moving my three Axolotl, Rose Slash and Axle to a new bigger tank soon and I am looking for ideas how to set it up.
Thanks for sharing
Jackie.
Hi!
It's astroturf/fake grass type stuff. I'm not sure about over in Canada, but here in the UK you can get it from most garden centres. I highly recommend it - it looks great and I've had my lotls on it since I got them at about 3 months old, and they've always seemed to love walking about on it! It also doesn't shed any bits which is a bonus.
Good luck with your search and thanks for the nice comments

My sister lives in Baston Peterborough I will ask her to find me some of the astro turf / fake grass type stuff you speak of. I love the look of your tank and I will be stealing some of your ideas for mine when it is built. My Lotls are all over 3 inches now and are ready for a new bigger home.
What type of filtration do you use? I see in your photos it looks like a waterfall in the background? is that your filter running into the tank? if so how do your Lotls handle the running water like that?
I am not sure what type of filter to use? under gravel wont work if I go with your idea of grass type flooring. So I was thinking of an external unit under the tank filtration any help on this?
I love my Lotls and want the best for them, they are quite the characters.
Thanks again Jackie.
Hi, I'm so sorry I haven't replied sooner, I haven't logged on since March 16th - whoops! :/
Have you started your tank yet?
Here's pretty much the deal with mine if it will still help!
We have an external filter for the tank - it is quite large and fairly pricey but totally worth it if you have the space - our aquarium is on a kitchen unit next to a table and it hides under there! Here is a link:
(No idea how to embed stuff on here, hopefully it will copy and paste at least. If still no joy, it's called Aquarium External Fish Tank Filter1000L/H if you just want to search for it!
The filter does run into the tank but it isn't running as such in that it it comes through a spray bar (which came with the filter I believe). We have it attached horizontally, slightly above water level, so it just trickles into the tank. The lotls have never seemed bothered by it! There isn't a waterfall in the background - we have a bubble pipe attached under that rock ornament which gives a nice visual effect, and actually the lotls like to play in it!
If there's anything I haven't explained very well do get back to me - I can always ask my other half, who is much more technically minded and also the chief tank setter upperer
Once again, my apologies for the very late reply. I will make sure I check in at least once a week!
It's so nice that you like my set-up and you can steal as many ideas as you want!
