It's a good thing you've got lots of silicone and lots of dry cocofiber because that's one huge project! :) There were a couple days when I felt a tad light headed from the smell of the silicone. Just make sure you wear a face mask.

Great work so far. Keep us updated with the pictures!

What kind of foam are you using?

don't worry, tom. look for more pics tomorrow. :D and kasie, im using Great Stuff.

more pics.....

Nice work Chris, A tip for the future; put some black silicones on the glass where you will spray great stuff, so you won't see the ugly great stuff through the glass on the front.

 Saw your reply in Tom's thread man, its cool to see you doing this too! But lets see, first I get some eggs of the same species, than make a thread, than say about doing a tank like this, than you follow suit shortly..... hmmmm. If I say I'll just off a bridge in a few days you wont fallow suit will ya? ;)

I started mine and will do a thread later. How much Great stuff did you go through? I just finsihed one can and Im on a 10 gal, I think I was cheated. Also, what type of filter are you using? Keep the pics comin!

Quick question. I started putting on the coco fiber and Im having alot of trouble. Im looking at your pics and it seems like the fiber went on smooth and even. Mines real chunky and having trouble sticking. Theres parts where I see the yellow from the great stuff and the silicone is difficult to spread. Did you have any problems? Im spreading it with my finger using gloves. I dont know if its the gloves or what but the damn thing looks like ****.

hahaha! i didn't think anything of it. i just wanter to build a semi aquatic different from my others and it seemed like a good idea even though looking back at it it does kinda look like me copying. except i got marms. they're sexier. :D

as for the great stuff...i covered it thick in silicone and crushed my cocoafiber and sifted it til it was like a powder. then i put it on thick and flipped the tank over after it dried to get the excess. i did have spots left over where great stuff was showing ut imma go back tomorrow and hit those up.

and i was gonna try to put silicone behind the glass dosn't work cause you can'r predict where it's gonna expand. imma just mask the front and sides off and spray it with some flat black paint. ;)

So you gonna post pics of the finished job? Im curious! Especially about any filter your using.

Ive had my coco out for about a week and guess what... its still moist! The top layer dries but damned if the bottom doesnt. And I used less water than reccomended. I guess Im not using enough silicone but I did alot of carving and shaping. Its pretty wild. Im ALMOST done.

Spread a thin layer of it out on a tray or in a plastic bag. Let it sit and it'll dry up completely after a day or two. You won't need a whole bucketful; maybe 3 to 4 handfuls.

one word...............awsome!!!!!

between this tank and the one for the cynops, I am getting some great ideas now. I think you guys may have started a Great Stuff and Co-co fiber trend over here. Looking forward to hear how things hold up in the long run, good luck!

Hows it going man giving me some great ideas when your putting the greatstuff on is it hard or easy to handle?

Love to see a finished picture mate!

Also dose it have to be Great Stuff Could u use other insalation foams?

Great work. I love these threads, were I more adventurous I would undertake a project like this myself. Maybe once I graduate . . .

One question. how do you attach the coconut fiber to the great stuff, and in the long run does it rot or need to be replaced? I guess I am asking, what is the average lifetime of this sort of set up?

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
