They are really nice Ruben. Do you find entire populations of "green" newts or are they mixed in with the regular black dorsal spotted animals?

Hi Mark...

Whell, in the most isolated populations that I know there are entire populations of (more or less) green newts. Although these individuals of the photographs were specially green, the populations use to have just only some small black dot on a green background, I would say about 96/99 % of green maybe.

Thank you for these wonderful photos Rubén. It's these kind of photo's that make the Caudata.org forum even more interesting.

Is there any information about why these isolated populations seem to have more green? Could this be food or environment related?

Very beautiful animals and photos. These are the kind of pics I would love to see in the 2008 calender.

They look magnificent. Shows just how variable newts can be.
They seem to be quite well fed too.
Are female a similar shade of green and with almost no black spots?
