This is my 12 cm long Pleurodeles, it lives with other two guys of about 8 cm.
Quite voracious specie.;)

I agree with Paris. It looks like it's getting the bicep like nuptial pads on it's arms.

Do you have a pic of the cloaca? In this species there isn't much of a difference, but mature males almost always have a bulge of sort while females don't have it as much, if at all.
 
I can do a photo. Currently the cloaca isn't big as I can see in some photos of Pleurodeles males.:happy:

Immature males don't have as big of a bulge as mature ones, but at that size you should be able to tell.

    Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

    Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
