Hello,

Everyone has been so helpful in the past and I was looking for experts to help verify my newt species. I bought 3 of these animals from a Illinois wholesaler who claimed these newts are Paramesotriton hongkongensis. I believe I have 2 males and 1 female, but other than sexing them I wanted to verify these were the right species. I attached pictures below and I will add more in an additional post as well. If anyone has time please post your replies, thank you.

Chuck

AW: Need help with Newt ID Please

Hello,

yes you have Paramesotriton hongkongensis. And the 8. photo in your first post shows a male.
The other twice should be females, but for a definitive right answer i need a better shot from the kloaka.

Good luck with your accession.

Greetings Ingo V.

Re: AW: Need help with Newt ID Please

Ingo,
Thank you for your response. I hopefully can get them to breed and I was told there were two females and one male. I'm not an expert but after inspection I believe this to be correct, from other members post on this species as well as info off the species database. Thank you so much for your input.

Chuck

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
