I have in my possession 2 frogs that I believe are of the Kassina family. I was told that they are 'African Running Frogs' but haven't found any online with this name. There are some Running frogs from Africa, but they are known by different names. The closest I can find to mine are Kassina Maculata and Kassina Senegalensis, the Senegalensis is closest, but the markings and mine are slightly different. They are a light brown colour with darker markings in kind of stripes. With one stripe going from head to rump. They are about 2 inches long (4-5cm) and move by walking rather than hopping (I've found in some places they are called 'walking frogs').

I have researched how to look after them and have them in a 2 and half foot tank with compost substrate, some hidey places and a shallow dish of water.

They are nocturnal, I believe, (they have huge eyes) and they like to burrow. They spend daytime burrowed in the substrate with just their eyes and nose poking out.

I've fed them crickets, but I think the crickets I've got are a little too big for them, so have some smaller ones on order.

Anyway, I just wondered if anyone could actually tell me what species the frogs are and if they have any input on whether I'm keeping them in the correct environment.

I have taken some pictures, though they're not all that clear, don't show the markings too well. I have also taken a picture of the tank, though this is work in progress and I'm hoping to add more plants.

Check out AmphibiaWeb. There are photographs of many different Kassina species, and that may help you identify them.

Best of Luck,
Alex
