Has anyone ever kept and/or housed a Batrachoseps attenuatus?

Or how about an Ensatina eschscholtzii?

They seem like delicate specimens, but they are really cool looking. Those are the two species I found on a recent field herping expedition. I was curious if anyone had them in capitivity.

Have a go at the forums search function, you will find a small bit here and there on these species.

You may also want to review your local and state laws on this matter. In Washington state for instance, it is against the law to keep native species or do any collecting in the wild.

Yes i have kept both and breed Batrachoseps attenus (3 of my females layed this year!). They are really delicate. I feed my Batrachoseps flightless fruit flies and wood lice. My Enstanias are feed small crickets and earthworms. If you want i can post pics.

I am always game for some pics. Post what you have...

Here are is a pic of my B.attenus enclosure. There are 8 in here it is a 20 gallon storage bin with holes drilled into the top:

My Enstania enclosure is just like this except there are only 2 hideouts, but the hide outs are bigger.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
