Hallo every one, I am Javi and I am living now in Madrid but I always lived in Tenerife, Canary Islands. I studied biology in La Laguna University but I did not finished it. I am interested in herpetology. Y have had animals at home since 70`s fishes, tortoises, lizards, snakes, etc. but now I only have amphibians because they are More easy to care. At this moment I have 2 Xenopus who are more than 20 years old and some Cynops.
I travel a lot and I used to take any little animal I get from nature, but now I am Nature photographer and I prefer to take pictures of them and get my animals from pet shops.

As I was living in Tenerife, where there is only 2 frogs introduced and a few interesting endemic lizards, and now I am living in Madrid I am enjoying going to the nature and see toads, newts, salamanders and snakes that I can not see in Tenerife.

I hope to get information from this site and be helpful for someone if he need my help.

Javi

Bienvenido al foro Javi.
I´m glad you are not taking animals from the wild anymore....it´s illegal to collect (and even disturb) any spanish amphibians or reptiles. It´s also rather inmoral given that these creatures need our protection.

That´s a gorgeous Epidalea calamita, very nice picture.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
