After heavy feeding through the summer and a cooling period my partners' T. carnifex laid about 200 eggs. The parents wasn't expected to breed till next year but they laid this spring. The larvae were started off on baby brine shrimp and then on to black worms. Now they are big enough to eat leaf worms and chopped earth worms. Since T. carnifex seem to be terrestrial, they will be giving on option between land and water later on. They look beautiful Jaymes! I hope these become more common as these are just wonderful looking! Thanks for sharing, I look forward to seeing more.

T.carnifex is completely aquatic in captivity, you won´t need any land. The morphs grow better when aquatic anyway. You can raise them terrestrialy if so you choose, though, obviously.

I for one hope they don´t become more available as the flavistic gene is lethal when two flavistics are combined, and causes infertility or low fecundity and general weakness in homozygotes.....definitely not a gene that should be spread around!!!

    with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

    Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

    Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
