Just received my axolotl yesterday, and I am a little overwhelmed! I feel like he is in bad shape, but I am not sure. He is maybe 2.75 inches long, I have him in a 29 gallon tank that is fully cycled. Just thought I would post a few pics and see if anyone saw anything worth commenting on. Thanks for any input

Hope the pics work... here goes!

What a shame someone sent you a poorly axolotl. :( I would contact the seller.
The missing limbs will grow back, and the curved gills may hopefully settle down soon. I think it is a lovely colour. I am concerned about its lower jaw/ throat area. It looks somewhat swollen. I wonder if there is something stuck in its mouth? Continue to closely watch it, make sure the water stays below 20 degrees, lower if possible . And keep us posted, have you named it yet?

Edit.
Having looked again, are the legs present?

Thanks for the reply. He does have all 4 legs, but they are tiny. From what I can tell he is missing 2 feet. The water is at about 62 F. Should I try and lower the temp more? He is not very active at all, with small bursts of energy occasionally.

I am not sure about his jaw area, I have only sand in his tank now, but have no idea what was going on before I got him. I haven't been able to get him to eat yet either, he took a small piece of worm but spit it back out.

I feel bad for him! Is there anything else I can do?

do you know what he was being fed before?

maybe he needs to get used to worms
