Here's what fell out of a crevice in a huge rock formation behind a McDonalds in West Virginia. The crevice with the fern is the one it fell out of.

How did that bearded chap get in the crevice in the first place? ;)

Wow. Whereabouts in Wv? Any idea what species it is?

Based on looks I'd say it is Plethodon electromorphus. Then again, it could also be Plethodon hoffmani. A county name and/or a belly pattern can tell you for sure.

Bill is the field herping expert. I think he has a belly shot of the salamander and probably has a better idea of the local than I do. I was as impressed with the flora we saw as I was with the fauna.

Wow! Nice little jewel there! Just don't let the cooks at Mickey D's see it! ;)

Their food don't rot but you can find salamanders nearby?! Hows the dollar menu looking like nowadays? Nice find!

After talking with Bill yesterday on the phone and getting the locality info, that is indeed Plethodon electromorphus.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
