I got these four wc kweichows earlier this year. Does someone look eggnant? Oh, if she would lay, that would be so great!!!

This is exactly what Elektra looks like (T. verrucosus) before she lays. But she lays in July.

Someone certainly looks ready to burst! Have you noticed any breeding activity?

I never see it, I've never seen my T. verr do anything, but I know they certainly are. They must be shy. I've seen my other newts tail-fanning and such, recently. As recently as yesterday.

You obviously have very polite newts!
I cant stop looking at how much bigger the bottom newts head is! Its huge!
I hope its pregnant, the best of luck!

If I hadn't seen a newt this large lay eggs before, I'd freak out that it was bloated or something bad. Luckily, I've seen it before.

When you say "I got these four..." do you realise there are just two in the photo and one looks like she's eaten the missing ones? :D

BTW love the word eggnant...did you come up with that?

That female is huge. You must have something in the air there.

There are four in the tank but only two in the pic, but she certainly does look like she ate them!

The other two are a similar looking pair, but the fat one isn't quite as fat as this one. I'm hoping what I have are two pairs...

Yes, I invented that work "eggnant." Also other words I'm hoping will catch on, for example, "urodelarium" for a salamander enclosure...feel free to use it!

Aww sorry :-(, I feel your disappointment! I hope there is still time for them to get busy.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
