This is the first time I've caught my male mating with my female. It was very interesting to watch.

Those are really cool photos. What kind of a Newt is that? Excuse the ignorance..... I just started as an amphibian Mummy last week!!

@brainlady Those are Notophthalmus viridescens (viridescens?)

Nice pictures, those are very cool newts!

Just be mindful that your male doesn't stress out the female with his constant woo-ing.

I already read a couple articles on that. I haven't seen them do it ever since so I think they'll be okay.

I caught mine in amplexus around the neck a couple of weeks ago. Backwards. XD

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
