I want to thank Joost for sharing pictures of his beautiful tank. How deep is the deepest part? How many popei you have living in this tank?

The deepest part is 15-16 cm. I currently have 5 semi adult popei in it.

Looks really nice! It actually remindes me of pictures from Hiji falls :D maybe a though you had when setup this tank?

Have you built the background yourselfe? or is it a cast module?

I haven't made it myself. The backwall costed € 450,- in the petshop, and I needed a custom-made tank for it (it didn't fit in standard tanks). The tank costed € 650,-

awesome tank! I want to make something like that for my marms when they are all grown up :) Do you think Marms would appreciate a fresh little trickle waterfall down some rocks?

In a aquatic setup, it's no problem at all. When they are terrestrial, it's too moist.

Great build. How long did it take for the plants ans mosses to mature? It has a wonderfully natural look.

Here some 'technical' pics. I have made a soil filter (I hope I'm using the right word), driven by water, instead of air, as the commercial ones do. I use a little aquarium pump (mini jet 606) for two little waterfalls.

How does a "soil filter" works? I`m not a tecnical person, so a short explanation would be good thanks.

That's why I said I don't know if I use the correct word.

It's a filter, what lies on the bottom of the tank, underneath the gravel. Dirt will be sucked into the gravel than.

Yes I understod that, so I tried to clerify that to you with selections around soil filter, but that may have been a little farfetched :)

little update: added some more javamoss, and other plants.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
