Me gorgeous litte axie died today :( , I just wanted to post some pics of the happier times she had.

Altho I'm only posting from my phone, I can't recall ever seeing a little memorial thread (altho it would be sad) I think it could be a nice way to remember our little friends.

Anyway,

Mia R.I.P

Checking out her new hide on the day I got her

She bought me alot of joy and I'm very sad typing this, but I'm not the only one missing her, Marcel her partner has been on his own now for a couple of days and he already seems lonely.

Please feel free to post your own little tributes and pics of any lost friends.

Priesty....you are a good axie parent...you can see that in the beautiful photos of Mia. Hang in there. Im sorry for your loss.
Those photos are lovely. Maybe you should email a couple off to Mark for the next axie calendar.
@thejamt.....that would have to be the biggest belly..........

he was a fatty. that was taken a few weeks before he died, and seeing he likely died im impaction.. but he was always fat.

Thanks, I have some cute vids to but its quite hard to watch them at the mo :(

Reynolds looks like he was a beast! It might not have been impactation, Mia had a bloated belly too but she had a xray and it was clear, maybe he had the same as Mia but cause he was dark you couldn't see the purple bruising on his stomach....

Hi priesty, ive put one of mias babies in an isolation tank for you, i picked you the biggest, 3.5 inch wild type, sorry i know you would prefer a leucistic but they all took after the father . PM me , when you want to collect, no rush. Hopefully he can help you get over mias death.

well, as his stomach got more swollen, it got white, then you could see blood at the surface of the skin. i have 2 theories. one, he ate gravel and became impacted. however, i dont think he did, because, as i was told to do when i got him (and was told he was a tiger salamander larvae) i only fed him feeder fish. so he wouldnt eat the rocks if the food was swimming. which brings me to scenario 2. he ate a snail. he certainly did eat a snail, i got 3 of them, and one went missing. never to be found again. i believe he ate the snail, and the snails i have are smaller and the shells are STRONG. so the shell became impacted, and thus, he swelled, and died. my new axies dont have snails in the tank, thats for sure.

Sorry that you lost mia and reynolds. They look like adorable Axalotals.

What a wonderful idea this thread is.
Here is my darling Axelina, who brought me lots of happiness while she was on this earth 2005-2009. Love her always.

Anda died. I don't know when or how, but I found her at the bottom of the tank when I was cleaning it out yesterday :( I thought that this thread was appropriate to post the news and she was always be remembered as the cute little pink axi that was hard to find in the tank. I've added some pics of her back in days of better health and happiness.

R.I.P Anda

I think, almost know for sure, that your axolotl died because of the gravel. The best substrate for axolotls is sand (it is also the cheapest substrate).

the thing is, he never ate food off the bottom of the tank. i was misinformed and fed him feeder fish.

My very first axie nitro died a few days ago, i dont have any photos of him, i dont have a camera and i really really wish i had known something was wrong so that i could of at least got some photos of him. But i dont have any, just memory's now, but what i do have of his, is his little babys. He breed 7 weeks ago with my female copper, and now we have still got 20 of there baby's. one will be named nitro after him. ='[

These are my dead axies :(

1. (The wildtype) "Plant" (not really her name...)
2. Nameless, skinny, golden axie girl...
3. Frangipane, such an awesome axie girl. :(

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
