Alright so heres my newest baby <3 I saved him from a terrible pet store Dx They had him in with all of his brothers and sisters, and all they had was gravel and 1 log =[ My poor baby was getting really picked on. Hes missing one complete back leg, 1 gill, a finger or 2, and some of his tail. =/ They kept the temp too high and they dont change the water in the tanks =/ But I saved him <3 if i could i would buy all of the axies and save them.. but unfortunatly i cant =/.. But heres some pics of dot. u can really see the eaten tail in the first pic. and notice on that side theres no leg =X

Awwww little one, get healthy soon now!

You did the right thing in rescuing this little baby axie. It makes me so mad at the blatant ignorance of most aquariums - ignorance or apathy.

More pictures please of how this little one progresses.

I'll deff keep you guys informed on how hes doing and try to get as many pics as i can :) atm i lost my cam, its somewhere around my house XD prolly in a really dumb spot i put it down. anyways. Yeah i'll keep you guys updated and try to post as many pics as i can! :)

Second Day in my care:

Alright, Doing well. No fungus in his re-growing limbs, Hes breathing normally ect ect, he poops normally. I dont think he swallowed any gravel in the petstore :) hes not picking on my other axies and they arent picking on him :)

Infact. they both went over to greet him today. it was cute. i walked in and sat down to watch them, and they both went over, one sat on him for a min then got off, and they just kinda sat around him, didnt nip him or anything ^^ I call that a success <3 haha. Heres some more pics.

There will be daily or semi-daily updates. If you want to keep checking back ^^ All comments are accepted. I love reading what everyones got to say/suggest :)

Alright, so daily updates didnt work out, but dot is doing amazingly :) His tail is all healed and normal now, His gill has mostly grown back, his one bit of leg he had is growing more, his other one is starting to come back :) And his finger is almost back! ^_^ his gill feathers are all fluffy and hes quite happy and quite the little piggy XP not a moment goes by where hes not full of bloodworms! hehe. but yea. hes doing great. the dot on his head is getting bigger :p And yeah! ^_^

Ahhh, love reading a happy story like this :D He's so cute, his patterning is really interesting, it's not like any wildtype I've seen pics of. Sort of like crocodile or snake skin pattern with all the dots in kind of stripes. Very pretty and I'm sure it will only get more interesting as he gets bigger. Well done on your axolotl rescue!

Well, its been quite a while since ive posted in this thread (because i forgot about it:p) but just letting everyone know dot's doing great! he's bout 4 inches long now and super healthy! his tail is completely grown back, hes got all 4 legs with all toes and big frilly gills! ^_^ I adopted another wild type who again, came in terrible condition, but im helping him and hes doing much better aswell ^_^ heres some pics of dot now!

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
