My boy got his new DSLR camera recently, so he took some pictures of my axies for me :) here they are!

1 - his axie, Shem
2 - my little creature, Hermione (she has a feather-less gill, you can see it pretty well in the picture
3-5 - my melanoid, Poseidon. He (or whatever gender it is) is eternally friendly and always tries to crawl on my hands. Silly.

I also have to add...this was right before a tank cleaning...their tank is usually cleaner than this ;)

Awesome pictures :D Lovely lotls too!

One little thing: I would get the gravel out (pic 1). Axies can swallow those rocks and end up impacted and they can die.

ha love the last axie, he's adorable. my old axie used to sit in my hand all the time, it was awesome.
my new one likes to nip at my fingers and the other day i was planting a new java fern in my tank and didn't see him around and all of a sudden i felt a huge nibble on my finger lol. it startled me but obviously didn't hurt or anything but it made me laugh. gotta love their personalities :]

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
