I find it strangely curious that this species of mole salamander is so inclined to climb. I have many sticks and twigs throughout the substrate and sticking up and out too. There are leaves, etc. Whenever they are out(generally, the middle of the night under 40-50 F conditions) they are always seen climbing the limbs, sometimes about 5" up. Has anyone else witnessed the same? I just find it an amusing thing to see as well.

I should add, that they do not climb up the sides of the glass, nor show any attempt to reach the top of the stick/twig, per se.They just climb about halfway up, and hang out for about an hour or two sometimes. The tank they are in has some hard water stains and is basically like looking through a cloud always, but it serves the most important function, containing the sals in a clean/stable environment.
