Does look like that yes. What do i do now? How do i care for it?

Congradulations! Keep a look out for more eggs of course. H.orientalis often lays at night. Others will eat the freshly laid eggs if they get the chance. That's why I check every evening and morning for new ones. Good luck and hope you will enjoy the whole process!

Looks like an egg to me too, I'm currently raising a chinese fire-belly larva, it's a little stressful, but fun too. Congratulations and good luck with the little guy/guys

def looks like an egg to me, we are raising 21 CFBN that we have had since eggs. :)

This will be the first time my newts have bred. Is it normal for them to have only laid a couple of eggs for their first time? I could only find two.
Also, What kind of food would yu need to feed the larvae? Some people have said live foods, others have mentioned fish flakes and bloodworms.

Thanks for all the help

we raised ours on brine shrimp, microworms, white worms and daphnia

You might get more eggs in time, as they tend to do 'batches'. But don't worry, we were told that ours had bred before, but we only got 3 or 4 eggs from them when we bred them

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
