For comparison an adult pair of Neurergus derjugini derjugini and Neurergus derjugini microspilotus ( or if you prefer N. derjugini and N. microspilotus)

Very nice newts, they look amazing!
How do you keep them? Aquatic all year or with a terrestrial set up for part of the year?

Hello Martin,

I keep these animals aquatic after hibernation till summer, then they were translocated in a terrestrial set up. I do this for all of my Neurergus species wether or not the animals show any sign to want to to go on land. All juveniles were kept solely terrestrial.
I adapted my method from observations of all Neurergus species in natural surroundings.
On the contrary there are different successful keeping methods.
 
Thanks for the information, i keep my Kaiseri the same, once they have finished breeding i remove them to terrestrial set ups even though they show no signs of wanting to go back to land. As juvs i kept them terrestrial until they showed breeding condition then they were placed in the aquarium.

I am rearing Crocatus the same, as juvs terrestrial and once they show breeding condition i plan to introduce them to the aquarium.

    with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

    Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

    Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
