Hello, I'm quite new to around here, as I just came here for the first time yesterday. I live in Louisiana and have really been fascinated with both reptiles and amphibians my whole life. Yesterday i was hiking though a forest trail when i discovered a little salamander under a rock. Having a jar on hand i captured the little guy and now i set up an empty tank i had at my house for him. I'm still not quite certain what it is, but I'm pretty sure it is a Gulf Coast Mud Salamander (Pseudotriton montanus flavissimus). Ill post a few pictures. Confirmation on this would be great!

Hello! I'm in Louisiana too, Lafayette here! I think what you have there is Desmognathus auriculatus, the southern dusky salamander. Mud salamanders have a shorter, rounded heads with a reddish underside.
