Yesterday Jaymes, Alex (Scorpion), and I went out for a day of herping. We found three species, wasted a bunch of gas, and had a blast. We had a ton of rain Monday here in South East Michigan, and the weather on Tuesday was perfectly overcast and cool.

We went to some awesome places, most that looked like this ;)

Alex had never found a salamander before and was self-proclaimed bad luck.
He looked hard though and eventually his efforts paid off with these two fat A. Laterale

We also found a few A. Maculatum which are a little harder to come by in Michigan.

Our third and final species was a redback. We found two, but only the "leadback" phase

Just before dark we had a run in with a bat. This guy was awesome. He kept flying right over our heads, probably eating little bugs we scared up. He couldn't care less that we were there though and got close enough that we could see the veins in his wings. He even landed for a close up. Wish I could have gotten just a bit closer though:

We only found three species, but we found a ton of individual sals. It was a great time!

Nice i was out today on the west side of the state but only had an hour. Found tons of wood, and green frogs and garter snakes. Even a neonate water snake. No sallys though.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
