For some unknown reason, this little fella managed to escape from the meticulous care of my father, and apparently hid under a big water bucket.

Some days later, I was dragging that same bucket (don't ask...) when I saw it on the floor. At first, I thought I killed it, but a more detailed observation revealed the truth.

After seeing the disconcerting view, I asked myself: should I lick it? But then, I remembered Johnny's bad experience, and decided to take some photos instead.

It stayed in that position about 15 minutes, and only gave up when I put it in water.

Hahah yes you should have sucked the poison out of its tail like johnny. joking.
Indeed incredible, looks like he was in true panic to eject toxins like that. I've only witness it once or twice in extreme cases when the animal suffers a great trauma (hitting the floor or an extremity when it slips from my hands.)
Thanks for sharing.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
