Hi all,

I have 8 P. Waltl larvae which are just over 2 weeks old. They are approximately 1.5 cm long and are feeding on small white worms. This morning, I noticed that one of the larva was hanging out between the aquarium glass and the ammonia sensor, so I took the opportunity to take some macro shots. Much to my surprise, I managed to capture a short video of his 3-chambered heart beating! You can also see his intestines full of white worms.. ;) Here's a link to the video, in case anyone is interested: Spanish Ribbed Newt larva's heart beating - YouTube

Here are some more pics of our larvae - who turn 3 weeks old tomorrow (Aug 9th)!!

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
