If all my babies werent so time consuming and i had exams soon i would so be telling everyone that they have to wait a bit longer for their axolotls because its possible that i have some piebald babies :D
Mine are almost 2" now and all my leucistic have a lot of black spots on them. I mean its possible they arent but im leaning more towards maybe?. A few have lost the coloration over the last month but some are the same. Actually when they first hatched we thought they were all light melanoids but since theyve grown we knkw they are leucies.

They are going to homes the weekend of the 20th and we will have 6left so they will be the melanoid we are keeping, the one we have with a spine abnormality and 4leucies lol.

I know that other piebald reptiles/caudates are worth more but im not sure about axolotls. I think they are absolutly stunning so if we do end up with piebalds they are staying with us(if all 4are piebald i may end up selling two just because i already have two juveniles too) i would be charging more not because they are piebald but because by the time i sell them they will be bigger(im only charging 10$ each for my babies but its because most are buying 4+)

How old/big were they before they started to exhibit the black on them?

Well, i didnt raise them from eggs. They were about 1 1/2 -2 inches when i got them and started to get spots around 4/5 inches. (Piebalds worth more than $10 cx) But yours may become piebald or just heavily/lightly spotted.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
