Add more water (fill it up!), take out the gravel.

To add to the previous advice, i would very highly recommend using live plants...in LARGE quantities. Also, do small water changes regularly...it´s difficult to tell if your water is high in tannins or simply filthy.
Obviously i assume you weren´t hoping for this kind of response, but your current set-up is really not adequate as it is. Check the CC articles (links in signature) and make the necessary changes. These are very easy to care for newts and very rewarding when housed properly. They can give you joy for many, many years if you treat them well.

the water is not filthy its the wood bleeding i filled it up more and i have one live plant i know you cant see it and a turtle bank

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
