Found this guy in our last clutch of gfp lucy male and albino female pairing. We have decided to name the axolotl Cow. Is this a spotted chimera?

it does look like a chimera of maybe a leucistic and a wildtype. Leucistics can have spots but I'm interested if the gfp gene got passed to it too? I've heard of a chimera that was only half gfp. Very cool!

It's exciting, that's for sure. I'll take a closer look at the gfp arrangement. I do believe it's only on one side.

Yes, let me use the digital camera and see if I can get better pictures of all side. The iPhone picture above was a quick snap.

Here are four digital camera photos. I think its easier to see now. Does it look like the gfp coloring is only on the stripe of wild type patterning?

Awesome! Keep us updated! Happy Easter!

Wow, you really have a beautiful chimera! Would you be willing to sell him, and if so, for how much? If your axies produce anymore babies like this, I'm sure others would be interested too! :)

Beautiful! For sale?? I'm interested, can you tell?!

Thanks! Sorry, not for sale. I've been offered $2500 which I hope I made the right decision to wait to sell as an adult. I really want to see how the coloring comes in.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
