These are my tanks that I've had running consistently for many years now (the 20g is essentially the same one I have in my profile from 2007, though all the plants but the java moss have died and been replaced with others). If I move I just remove the rocks and animals and leave the substrate and plants. The 20g is currently housing some T. karelinii larvae and the 10g has two T. marmoratus. Each tank has its own unique diversity of invertebrate creatures that originally came as pests. The T. karelinii larvae used their tanks inverts as a food source until recently.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
