What color is Murphy? Dark wild? Melanoid? Something different?

I think more melanoid than wildtype. But who knows maybe my eyes are bad
Either way looks great!

Thank you XD MY eyes are kinda bad so that's why I asked. I'm not sure of the requirements for melanoid either :/

Looks like a pretty melanoid to me. Melanoid is generally defined in this forum as lacking irridiphores, the shiny pigments in axolotl skin. It is easiest to tell by looking at the eyes. A wild type will have shiny rings around their eyes in bright light, a melanoid will not. You can shine a flashlight on them to see the irridiphores easily.

Ohhhhh okay! Thanks so much guys! She's definitely a melanoid then XD I got her from Margie indirectly ( we think she sold her to the person who supplied my local pet store).

Well, that explains why she is so pretty! I have a black melanoid from Margie, and she has those amazing gills too... and super cute!

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
