With around 65 gallons on them the old Ikea units have been literally on the point of collapse for a while now so we finally got around to sorting something better. The fitted wardrobes in the spare room weren't serving any purpose other than collecting junk, so we ripped them out to create a nice usable alcove instead. In went some beefed up kitchen units and work top with three cupboards underneath for storage, wiring, filters, etc along with two shelves above for house plants and other stuff.
When we moved the tanks I took the opportunity to sort the miles of jury rigged cables and airlines as much as possible, but so much modern stuff comes with awkward low voltage transformers nowadays, so can't be wired into the cable tidies that I've used since I was a kid and not only that, most of them are too wide to be plugged in next to each other in a normal, multi socket adaptor. Stupid.
Its almost finished now except for the middle door and the plinth to cover the legs, these need cutting to size and I don't have the correct saw blade at the moment. We haven't chosen the plants yet either, but it will be mostly ferns and other stuff that doesn't need bright lights.
Over all we're really happy how its turned out and I know the newts are happier now their tanks don't sway from side to side when anyone walks in the room!
