Hey guys,

I set a tank up about a month ago with two axolotls. I have recently been looking to buy some live plants to add to the tank to help with water quality. I found someone selling anubias nana and anubias nana petite online and thought these looked okay. However before I pay and go pick them up, I was curious if these plants looked healthy? The only thing that worried me was the leaves appear to have some white dots on them that I am not sure what they are. Could these be harmful to my axolotls?

It's hard to see what you're talking about. Can you take close-up photos?

Can you describe the white spots better? Are they oval, slightly smaller than rice-sized and glued onto the leaves? If so, they could be the eggs of nerite snails, which are not harmful don't hatch in freshwater because they need brackish water to reproduce.

Good luck.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
