So I've made like 2 other forum posts about this, no one has answered so I don't know what to do really. I have not seen my axolotl use the bathroom at all this month. She's not lethargic, she's eating, she's not being overly aggressive. She's not distended, or bloated. She usually has 1 large, solid movement every 7-10 days but it's been a while. I am really starting to worry, even though she's not acting strange. Could someone please give some input on this?

Her water parameters are fine, ammonia and nitrites are at 0, pH is 7.6, she's in a 20 gallon long, two sponge filters, ultra fine sand as the bottom. She hasn't had worms in like 2 weeks mainly because our fridge just exploded and we're still waiting for the new one to be delivered so she's been living off her standard pellets, which she eats with absolutely no problems, no rejection. It has been hard to maintain her temp since the freezer her ice and ice packs are in, is now full of garbage from the old fridge that my mom refuses to throw out. Not to mention last week it was 84 out and 2 nights ago is 37, so her tank can go from 62 to 66 in the matter of only a few hours.

She had a bout of fungus in October and February, no major problems there. She gets weekly water changes, usually 60% of the water. Sometimes, usually only once a month, I take her out and put her into her tub, and then do a much larger water change. Last time I did one, I removed everything. Her filters, drift wood, fake plants, I removed them all, expecting to find some bathroom waste. Found nothing.

Maybe she did use the bathroom and stepped on it? Could be it. If she acts normal, then that is the reason.

My axolotl poops noticeably less when he eats pellets vs. when he eats worms, so that could definitely be what's going on. My advice is to stay consistent with the feeding, keep an eye on its weight, and try as best you can to keep the temperature consistent. If the temperature does drop, look for poop, as that's usually when they do it.

Temperature is unlikely to drop for a while since I cannot get access to her ice packs since my mom filled my axolotl's entire freezer with food from the fridge that exploded. I'm not too happy about the whole thing. I think it's sitting at 65 right now but the new fridge doesn't come till the 22nd. And I guess that would make sense, she hasn't had more than 2 worms in 2 weeks. We currently have 0, since we have no fridge. I'm thinking that might actually be an issue, because our fridge started to malfunction back in late March and that's when my axolotl puked up a worm. Maybe the temperature wasn't what she wanted...

More than likely, she's either stepping on it and it spreads around/get sucked up by the filter. Or she may even eat it, as gross as that is. It could also be in part to diet change and a change in consistency of her stool. If she is active, eating well and theres no sign of bloating, I wouldn't be too concerned.

It must have been the change in her diet, she went yesterday after I did her water change (of course). She's been on pellets only for almost 3 weeks now and the fridge doesn't come till Thursday...IF it comes then. I'm glad my axolotl is ok though, I was really worried there for a bit. Do you think like 3 pellets every other day is too little? Should I feed her more?

Oh yeah? Ok, I will increase her food intake. Maybe 5-7 pellets every other day? She's pretty fat anyways from all the worms I used to feed her but she's like, not too fat.

That's a photo from like, October that I attached. She doesn't look underweight or anything, does she?

Definitely not underweight. 5-7 every other day should be enough. Just monitor her weight.

Awww, good, thank you. I gave her 8 today and she's been swimming around and hanging out in her bubbles, I think she's happy. She likes to put her face in the bubbles that come out of her filter.

Thanks for helping. I was really worried there for a bit.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
