Hi everyone! I just notice this "problem" on my axolotl skin, I was wondering if it's just a scratch...or, I hope not, a skin problem/illness?
My axolotl, Sheldon, is such a good and active boy so I'm very worried... Can somebody help me please

Always keep methylene blue with you and apply whenever you see a wound like this. It will protect against infection.

What are the water parameters? Are there sharp edged objects in the tank? If so, remove them and blunt with sand paper before putting them back in. Has your axolotl been prone to illness in the past?

because of the blood vessels around the edges making it look like a sewn on patch I would say it's a scrape, try to make sure that any ornaments etc.. have plenty of clearance for him/her to go under.

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
