Hi. New here. I have two axolotls around 10 months old in a 60 gallon long tank. I've never had any problems with them until 5 days ago when I returned back from a trip and one of the axolotls refused to eat. The other axolotl is still eating, but not as much, and is also not enthusiastic about feeding like he usually is. Both axolotls appear visually healthy with no lesions, abnormal spotting or any other physical signs. Neither one of their gills are curled, so the only sign of stress I have to go off of is their lack of appetite.

I decided to tub the axolotl that wasn't eating at all with a bubbler and a few pieces of Indian Almond Leaf. 100% daily water changes. On day one, two and three, the tubbed axolotl ate a bit, but not much. I was just happy she was eating. On day 4 of being tubbed she ate even less, and then today, day 5, refuses to eat at all. Since she initially stopped eating Nightcrawlers, I switched her diet to just Red Wrigglers along with Hikari Carnivorous pellets. Again, she progressively stopped eating even that. Not even blood worms will entice her.

Water parameters in the tank are 0 Nitrite, 0 Ammonia, and between 30-40 Nitrate. Temperature is around 64 degrees. I am shocked, frightened and confused about what can be going on. My gut feeling is that they might have been fed a bad worm. I am posting this on a Friday and we have a vet appointment on Monday. My anxiety is through the roof, and I might lose my mind between now and Monday. Can anyone offer any insight into what might be happening?

is the other axolotl male??? from the looks of it, this may be an issue of "girl issues" that your female axolotl is going through right now. i'm curious to follow to see what the vet says on this. when the female becomes gravid and full of eggs, she will generally stop eating. she should return to eating regularly as soon as this passes.

could you double check as not sure that it isn't just marks on the tub but the gills on your axolotls right look like they have the beginnings of fungus.
