I have a 17-year-old aquatic paddle tail newt named Newton who appears to be extremely bloated. The first 2 pictures of him are from a few months ago, which capture how he normally looks. The last 3 pictures are from the other day.
The bloating became visible about 2 days ago shortly after feeding him his usual blood worms.
He hasn’t become noticeably less active since the bloating started, although I do think he has become more sluggish over the past year.
I’m in touch with a veterinarian, and they’ve recommended tetracycline treatment. Is anyone familiar with this kind of treatment for what I’m guessing could either be a bacterial infection or kidney issue? Would salt baths be advisable? I’m hoping someone here may be able to offer some insight.
