    EBay and Axolotl Shipping Nightmare

Does anyone else have problems selling axolotls on eBay? I have had the worst experience in my entire time on eBay this past week. Listed some axolotls, and it was taken down due to shipping policy. I listed as 1-3 business day shipping. So, I relisted with 1 day shipping only and...

    FS Posting?

Any idea why the post I made in the FS section hasn't been approved yet? Posts newer than when I submitted mine are up now. I followed the rules.

    DIY Chiller

Does anyone have experience or knowledge of making your own chiller? I know a lot of reef DIYers say that the mini fridge method is not effective or worth the effort. What about the axolotl community? Is it effective for what we need?

    Axolotl Genetics Discussion

I'm a little bit of a genetics freak, or at least I was in high school, so I am interested in trying to figure out the genetics for my 4 babies. I have 4 Axolotls from the same clutch (NO I will not be breeding them to each other) that are still unsexed. 1 White Albino 1 Light Wild...

    Grey Color??

I have 4 4-5 month old Axolotls and one of them seems to be developing a "grey" slime coat? She is a wild type, and has always been greyer in color than the other's, especially down her tail that lacks almost all the black spots. Lately, though it almost looks like her slime coat is turning...

    General Feeding Question

So, this has a little to do with Axolotls. I got home from work last night, to see my Pearl Cichlids laying eggs! Yay! (Not) I've been having a hard time getting rid of their offspring, as they seem to be very prolific. No local fish stores within 2 hours of me are interested in them...

    Feeding, how much and when.....

I currently have 3 babies, 3-4" long now. They are currently eating frozen blood worms. I was feeding them 1 cube twice a day last week. Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday I fed them 1 cube 3 times a day. Since I work during the week, I fed them 2 cubes this morning before I left. My...

    Lava Rock and Axies?

I have some spare lava rock that is just sitting around... was wondering if it would be ok with my babies? Hubby thinks I should add some more rocks for them to lounge on, which I TOTALLY agree with..... but I told him I didn't think the lava rock would be such a good idea, cause it's so...

    Shipping Axolotls?

I'm curious.... How safe is shipping axolotls? I'm on a facebook page where a member posted yesterday their little one arrived dead, the bag broke and it was out of the bag and bloody. :( I really want to get a leucistic but I am very nervous about shipping now....

    Curious Momma!

So, who else spends their work day browsing the forum and looking up old threads just to get as much information on their new little one's at home? Proud momma of 3 3 month old wild type babies, I worry when I'm not home to watch them. Wonder if they are eating their substrate when I'm not...

    New Habitat Set Up

I have a few silly type questions about Axie habitats. I'm more used to fish, so this is all an experience for me. I want to do a sand substrate, since the tank I have is on a stand with no bottom under the tank (20g long standard metal stand), I feel the clearness and visibility to the...

Hi I recently rescued a lotl (i did weeks of research before rescuing) Hes mabey 5 or 6 years of age..the previous owner could not remember the exact age of him. I got him from her as he was or had been picked on by his tank mate another lotl who was bough with him from every younger age, I noticed one of his gills, a middle one at the end had split in two? And is slightly more floppy? He also appears or mabey I'm just over worried to mabey have lost some feathers, is that normal to lose some?...all levels in the tank are fine, but wondered if theres and advice anyone could give me as an experienced owner to a new one.

@Lanalotl Sounds like the gills may have been nipped by the tank mate. If he is in his own tank and the parameters etc are all good, then he should grow them back and they should go back to full health and strength. However, depending on how old the injury is they may not fully grow back if they have been constantly nipped at.

Can anyone tell me why this is happening? We just did a water change and after freaking out and whipping around the tank, an hour later they look like this. It won't let me send a pic. The edges of their gills are white and it looks like they have skin shedding off

That sounds like severe skin damage. If you post a thread on the forum, you can attach pictures.

It sounds like something went wrong with the water change, so this could be very dangerous. Did you use a dechlorinator? Could it be there are traces of chlorine or soap in the water? (Or for example, in the bucket you used?)

Normally, I would recommend taking them out of the tank asap and putting them in a tub with fresh water, but if there's something wrong with your tap water or dechlorinator, that might not help either. Do you have acces to bottled water or rain water?

I think my axie is dying, he’s never had any issues before, I’ve had him 3 years, today I noticed some fluffy looking stuff coming from his genital area so I took him out of his tank and did a full tank clean to make sure the water wasn’t infected as I thought it was fungus and then I noticed he had a cut on his belly which was only small about 5 hours ago and now it’s spread to all of his belly, what do I do I’m freaking out

Hi I have 2 4in juveniles (I’ve had them about 2 weeks and they are doing well I think they’ve grown a little already honestly) but I am supposed to go on a 5-6 day vacation in October about 3-4 months from now. I am wondering how I should go about their care when I am gone. I thought about putting them in separate (fairly big) containers with live plants and/or bubblers with a fan in the dark and either fridging them (my last plan) but I am hoping to to either have someone I trust come feed them and turkey baste waste out or just leave them out and clean the containers before we leave and have someone come check on them once or twice. Does any of this sound like a good or bad idea? I want the best for them. All help appreciated :)
