I'm not sure what to do.

I have three axolotls housed together. One female and two males. They are all related, there is a sister and brother and the father. Normally when they lay eggs I pull them out early enough to where I do not feel guilty, but these seem to be on day four of development and too far along for me to...

    Well hello there!

My "baby" axolotl, he's now 9 months old, finally grew enough to ad him to the main tank. The golden is actually the wildtype's dad :) I though this picture was kind of funny, it was a lot like watching 2 dogs get to know each other!

    Axolotl is getting worse...

Something is seriously wrong with my female axolotl. Background info: Last June my female and male axies were sharing a 55 gallon, they laid a bunch of eggs so I put a divider in. At that point I noticed the female was losing weight, this made me nervous so I started feeding her a bit more...

Small amount of fungus, salt bath?

My axolotl has a small bit of fungus on her gill. Is a salt bath routine necessary at the first sight of fungus or should I wait to see if it goes away on its own?

    They grow up so fast!!

I raised this guy from an egg! His mama is a leucistic, and his dad is a golden albino. I separated mom and dad to avoid more egg laying... so now I have 3 aquariums with one axie each  He got his mama's pink gills :) I just love his markings, I always wanted a wildtype! And a...

Can I put these 3 together eventually?

Right now I have a pair of axolotls in a 29 gallon aquarium with a divider. They laid two batches of eggs within 3 weeks and I was worried about my female, she is still kind of small, so I put the divider in. After reading a bunch of threads on here I am hopeful that they may be able to live...

    Unexpected Eggs

My axolotls Judy and Grimace have been busy little critters. The night before I left town last week I was surprised to find eggs all over the silk plants in my tank. I had no choice but to just leave them in there. Eggs right after I found them The happy couple So now I am back in town and...

    Random question about my axolotl...

I was staring at my axolotl yesterday and I noticed that his head seems like it is full of tiny balls... I know that sounds strange... it looks like the little balls are under the skin, not the texture of the skin. Like his head is full of Purigen... haha What's up with that?

    Boy parts... swollen or normal?

My axolotl Judy has grown significantly lately, including his boy parts. It looks really puffy and strange to me, is this normal? He has been kept on sand in the past, but has been living in a bare bottom tank for 5 or 6 months now. So no possibility of being impacted.

Tail has a red tint suddenly? (pics)

As I was feeding my axolotl I noticed that his tail was slightly red. I have never seen this before and I am a little concerned. He just had a big growth spurt, and is eating like a freaking pig! He also spun around and acted like he was trying to bite his own tail... what the heck could be...

I would like to introduce my new axolotl to my existing axolotl, is this okay?

Somebody on my local aquarium forum was giving away an unwanted axolotl. I went and picked him up after work today, He seems to be in pretty fair condition besides the fact that he is very skinny. The guy said he had had him for about two months, he has been feeding him frozen brine shrimp. As...

    R.I.P. Gonzo

I just wanted to post a warning that buying and axolotl from Wards is risky business. I knew it seemed too good to be true, the price was right... So instead of being patient and waiting for my local pet shop to get some axolotls I ordered from wards. Big mistake. When Gonzo arrived he was...

    When to worry...

I have noticed a tiny bit of what I am assuming fungus on one of my axolotls, and I was wondering at what point I should consider salt baths? I tried to take a picture and it's not showing up. There is a very very small amount on one of his toes, and a bit on his chest. Are salt baths necessary...

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
