Arm became stuck in filter intake

My golden albino male, Butters, has gotten himself into an awful situation. This week has been quite hectic after the sudden passing of my husband's grandfather Monday evening. On Wednesday I fed all of my axolotls their worms....Thursday I had to run right home from work to head to the wake...

    Got Quite a Deal!

My husband Steve ran to our local pet store, a Pet Supply plus, to pick up cat food and litter yesterday, and he came back saying that they had a Fluval 405 on clearance for $140. He hadn't bought it because he wasn't sure how good of a deal that was. I told him it was about $100-120 below...

    Mark/Coloration?

My young, approx 6-7 month old, wildtype names Yoshi has developed a few white marks over the past couple weeks. (I will refer to Yoshi as "he" just to make things simple, I actually do not know the gender yet). The main one visible is on the right side of his face, about 1/2 cm behind his eye...

    Bored with my set up....

Ok....I am hitting a spot where I am really bored with my tank set up. It was pre-drilled for a sump but I have those blocked off. This means I have a section in the middle that is blocked off for where it would go. I have just a basic set up.....black sand, blue back ground, drift...

Thoughts and Prayers to Denver after shooting last night.

Last night my Batman obsessed husband and I went to the midnight showing in a local town here in Rhode Island. Woke up a few hours after getting home to learn that in Denver Colorado a shooter had targeted movie goers and opened fire in a theater. 14 dead, 50+ wounded including 2 listed in...

Youngin's in their big tank - pic heavy

Feeding time is the best time to get pictures of everybody. The 5-6" ones are Black Magic (the gfp wildtype) and Spryo (the leucistic who just in the past few days turned out to be a boy!) the 4-5" ones are Puff and Fluff (the leucistics) and Yoshi (the wildtype) Spyro Yoshi Fluff, Puff...

Large enough to be housed together?

I have two 5" axolotls, one leucistic and one gfp wildtype growing out in a two footer and three 4" axolotls, two leucistic and one wildtype growing out in another two footer, and I was wondering if I could put the 5 in a 4 foot tank (72 Gallon bow) to grow out a bit more together?

Question: You have WHAT with your axolotl?

I know the tank mate question can cause a bunch of strong feelings - some founded, some not. For example I have a 72 gallon tank with two adult axies and one fantail goldfish. A few months ago I put a picture in the "share pictures of your tank" thread and of course I had a bunch of negative...

    Black Magic

A small GFP wildtype I adopted two weeks ago. I took this little axolotl home with two back legs and two bitten off but regenerating front arms. Kind of scraggly looking and over all pathetic Now, two weeks later. Both front arms are fully regenerated, a bit more weight put on and a...

Ok...be HONEST - -how many tanks do you REALLY HAVE?

I started looking around my house, and the thread http://www.caudata.org/forum/f1-general-topics/f5-general-discussion-news-members/f1167-off-topic/83366-where-would-my-hobby-without-caudata-org.html really made me think. A bunch of responses were - they would have more SPACE! This is most...

High lead levels in water? is this a problem?

Does anyone know if lead is dangerous to axolotls? Since September when we moved the weekend following the hurricane, we have been having water advisories, boiling water warnings etc...and now there are notices going around our and neighboring towns about high lead content and how to protect...

    72 gallon upgrade.

Finally had enough time today to put the semi-final touches to the tank so I moved my two axolotls into the tank and then watched them explore! They seem to love the new set up....and I love watching them explore. 72 Gallon Axolotl Tank - YouTube

Getting ready to spoil my axies rotten. They currently live in a 36gallon bow....I am redoing my 72 gallon bow front for my current two....my female wildtype Reese and my male golden albino Butters. I hope to add another one or two later this year. This is where I need your opinions...

    Baby wipe out :(

On feb 5th my axolotls laid close to 200 eggs. A week ago they started hatching. I had 161, wildtypes, golden albinos, and a few albinos and leucistics tossed in. Yesterday after feeding, I was doing the water changes and divided the axolotls into smaller groups by color. The wildtype babies...

    What color are these babies?

My batch laid on Feb 5, 2012 is on the third day of hatching and we have 147 hatched babies so far. The mother is a wildtype and the father is a golden albino. Some of the axie babies are dark and some are a tan color....what color will they grow to be? Day 3 of hatching axolotls - YouTube

    Separating babies?

I have found myself suddenly surrounded by babies! I am going to have three batches of babies being raised... Batch1 = about 3 weeks old and rescued from craigslist (unknown parent genetics) (there are only 2 babies, one of them passed), Batch2 = then on Feb 5th my axies (wildtype female X...

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
