FYI: A warning about Tahitian moon sand

Not sure if I should post this here or in the sick axies thread  but decided here was better since it's really about the 'sand'. It's kind of long but please bare with me. I had to have one of my 17cm axies put to sleep last week and an autopsy was done. The finding were a little...

Photo: The Newest member of the family & Hubby's first Axie!

My husband, a devout fish person, fell in love with Hoo-Dee-Nee and was brought around to these wonderful critters watching her grow. He's been watching over my shoulder while I've been browsing the Forums and has fallen for the Olive coloured Axies. So today after much searching we finally...

Photo: Update on my huge 6x2x2 Tank build

Ok so It's been 3 months since I started my 6x2x2 so I though I'd share what it all looks like now after a few months growing time. And since I was taking pics of hubby's shrimp tank last night I thought why not take a few of mine while I'm here ;) You can find the original build thread here...

Photo: For the 'Fish' Fan Club ;o) and can anyone confirm female/male?

OK as promised some better Pics of the darling Fish. Getting big now at about 19cm (a smidgen under) as you can probably see we have dark toe tips now that we're almost 10 months old. Not great light to get his/her shininess but I didn't want to overstress him/her. Can anyone say Yes or no...

Question: Experts/experience needed: Can I combine any of these guys?

I suspect I know the answer but just thought I'd check with those wiser and more experienced than myself. Can I put any of these combinations of Axies into the same tank without a divider given they will have 12 square feet of floor space and 24 cubic feet of volume to hang out in Rukmini and...

Photo: My littlins - Any guesses on a colour?

Well 4 of them anyway. These guys are in the for sale tank and I needed to update the pics for their add. They are all 4 months old now and about 14cm long. Wild Type, obviously ;) but pretty none the less Hypermelanoid (Melanoid) I LOVE these little guys, so pretty. And what the heck is...

    FYI: Chrysta's at it again!

:D Hubby went and bought me 2 "new" tanks tonight @ $50 each second hand obviously but they came with stands so I am a happy little camper who now has a "new" 4ft and 5ft aquarium for my ever growing babies to move into so I don't have to cull *shudders at the thought* or sell them to the pet...

Photo: Need help with a colour ID... again

I found this little guy in with my baby melanoid albinos, well at least that's what I thought they were, and noticed that he looked decidedly grey so out he came and out came the camera. I hope you can see what I mean he or she is clearly melanoid with the absence of shiny patches and the eyes...

Photo: SO excited! The newest members of my growing family

Out of the original 165 that hatched back at the end of January I am keeping these 2 :D Meet Rukmini ~ Hinid - It means "Adorned with Gold" S/He is as far as I can tell a Melanoid albino, those eyes are still throwing me but s/he has some lovely yellow markings on her head and down her back...

Question: Is this size difference normal?

I have about 90 month old larvae. The biggest of them, the wild types, are an inch long and just getting their hind legs. I have a heap ranging in size down from there to 19-20mm all with front legs and most with the very beginnings of back legs, my problem is this. I have 2 wild types that are...

Photo: Can I just say OUCH!!!!!

Caught little Fish mid poop. I can't say I had ever thought about the size of the poos I pull out of his tank compared to him and after seeing this it makes my eyes water. How would you go pooping out something 1 and a half to two times the size of your thigh...

    Question: Tadpoles as axie food?

We have millions tadpoles (Motorbike frog) in out hothouses now normally we would collect as many as we can and release them back into the nearby river to keep population numbers up which apparently is working as we get more and more males in the hothouses every year (as well as a few permanent...

Photo: OK I give up what color is he?

What do you call a golden albino that's not an albino and isn't really all that golden all over? Little fish is doing my head in :( Maybe he's wild or copper but I can't see any dark pigment aside from his eyes. The color migration is just fine and goes all the way down to his belly he's shiny...

Photo: My babies :) Who's good with colours?

OK so I've lost all my axanthics now  and I'm hoping they will be stronger in future spawnings so these are the basic 4 types of the 100ish babies I'm left with. What would you call them? For what I can figure they are Golden Albino, Maybe melanoid albino not sure what to make of the pale...

    Photo: Axolotl booger LOL

Somehow in her haste to eat a particularly juicy worm Chrysta managed to snort a bit of something either up into or down out of her nostril  I was worried for a couple of minutes but she managed to dislodge it on her own. It didn't bother her at all but man it looked funny. I'm still not...

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
