    Alpine round up

Alpine newt rodeo in my shed this morning. I was expecting 50 or so but i found 114 with a few more waiting to morph. Bit smaller than i would have liked but i poisoned my daphnia tanks by overfeeding and wiped them out. Fortunately the mozzy population boomed, so they had plenty of food but its...

    Eastern tiger sals

Eastern tigers, illinois locale. Bred by my buddy Mark (Woodrot on here), i raised around 200 from newly hatched larvae, 150 went out at 3", i kept 50 to go terrestrial. I lost three morphing, the first def drowned as it needed a haul out which i failed to provide, noob error not to be repeated...

    Baby fire sals

My first breeding year for S.s.terrestris, i had the parents since they were juvies, finally bred after five years. I keep them in a very cool shed with a cooling winter period so i think development was a bit on the slow side. Ive recently increased my colony from four to twenty adults and am...

    Alpine round up

Just rounded up this year's alpines from their tub. Earlier in the year I dropped 60ish larvae into an aged tub in my garden. It is just left to lie fallow all year, I throw a few pellets in there to feed the inverts every few weeks, it's loaded with snails, daphnia, mozzy larvae , hog lice and...

    Unethical breeding

I work off the premise that somebody who breeds axolotls should only release fit and healthy individuals into the hobby. Unfortunately this is starting to become a minority view. For those of you with a sensitive and bunny hugging disposition please leave this thread now, never breed any...

Breeding female axolotls under 18 months

According to the care sheets on this site it is inadvisable to breed female axolotls before 18 months ( Axolotls - Breeding Axolotls Successfully ) as it may cause health problems. I have had a number of females breed before a year of age and have observed no problems, once a tank full of nine...

    Culturing daphnia

I have been asked by a couple of people to write a thread on my care techniques for raising daphnia and moina ( Daphnia - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia ), all who have successfully raised axolotls with baby brine shrimp (bbs) but would like to avoid the large amount of water changes this...

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
