The tank has about 3 inch of cocosoil coir and a lot of oak leaves and hiding places. I lost one and dont know if it has buried itself in the...

    Oak leaves

Autumn is coming and the trees are starting to shed their leaves. I am thinking of going to the park and collecting a lot of oak leaves for my newt and salamander tanks. Do I have to do anything to the leaves before putting them in the newt tank. I just hope there are no mites on the leaves...

A simple question. I think I know the answer as yes, but I will ask anyway. I think it would help others too. I have 2 x chinese firebelly newts in the aquatic tank. One seems very plump around the middle. But I am not overfeeding them. I have just saw something black / dark grey colour...

    Question: Succulent plants

I am finishing off my tank for fire salamanders. Are succulent plants ok to put in the soil. I am thinking the rockery sort, not cactus type. I have hides, branches, soil and mosses in there and a plastic plant. I have put some woodlice and crickets in there too. There are some adults and baby...

    Newt tank adequate I hope

I have moved the Japanese firebelly newts into a tank so they have plenty of room. I hope the interior is adequate for them. It is a semi aquatic setup with water one side and land the other. The land part has sand on the bottom, gravel on the sand, mesh on the gravel then coco coir on top...

    Loads of slugs

I have a load of small slugs in my garden. The frogs that are about dont seem to be eating them. They are a bit too big for my newts. Would it be worth getting a salamander to eat them. It would be easy going out at night and picking loads up for one. Would salamanders eat small slugs. I dont...

    Is it fully aquatic

I have 2 CFB,s and have put them in my tank with water and a floating dock with plants etc. One I think is fully aquatic and the other may be thinking about it still. The one in water has eaten and the one put went for a worm as it wriggled and missed. So it did not eat and went off it. I am...

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
